2014 Colorado State Music Teachers’ Association TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

After over 5 decades of teaching, I still look forward to every day!

I have always loved teaching students of all ages but am now transitioning to teaching only adults in my 4-piano home studio in Lafayette so that I can do a bit of travelling and spend more time with my grandkids. And while my early training was primarily classical, I have continually tried to expand my horizons – and my offerings – through workshops, classes, attendance at state and national music teacher’s conferences as well as several years of private jazz piano lessons. In 1985, while working as marketing director for Chris Finger Pianos in Niwot, I conceived of and co-chaired BAMTA’s first Multiple Piano Festival, an event which will be celebrating its 40th year this coming November.

I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in 1971 and 1976 respectively and received my Nationally Certified Teacher of Music certification in 1972.  My many years of accompanying – for junior high, high school and college choirs, woodwind, brass and string instrumentalists, church choirs, and singers of all ages, as well as 14 years as a member of a four-hand piano team who gave recitals throughout Colorado – make me uniquely qualified to include the art of COLLABORATIVE piano in my teaching.

I’m especially honored to claim several professional musicians in our community as my former students, some who have written lovely testimonials on my website. I believe that enthusiasm for learning balanced with a carefully constructed and broad-based curriculum is the basis for my success and may also be a part of the reason I was named by the Colorado State Music Teachers’ Association the 2014 TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
